CONTEMPORARY SONG

China's white ceramics have long been viewed as the untimate expression of its cultural maturity and high taste in arts and crafts. The country's development of such pieces reached its zenith during the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279 ce.).

It was during this era that ceramic fabrication advanced dramatically from the practical and aesthetic balance emphasized during the preceding Tang Dynasty.
Legendary tea connoisseur, Lu Yue, summed up the spirit, appearance and function of these vessels best when he described them as being "Bright as Silver, White as Snow".

For the first time, ceramics became the preferred choice-not as cheaper substitutes for more precious metals such as gold and silver. They were appreciated not only as essential elements of everyday life, but also as works of art and as a mark of connoisseurship. This gave rise to the quest of perfection by the patron and the artisan.

As a collector of white ceramics of the Song era, and a firm believer that beautiful objects enrich everyday life, I have designed this exclusive collection, interpreting the spirit, quiet elegance and refinement of classical Song forms, and at the same time, enlivening these designs with touches of contemporary East and West, including elements drawn from leading Western artists, including Joan Miro and Cy Twombly.

This limited edition of white ceramics fusing the essence of the Classical and Now, East and West, is designed for everyday enjoyment and use.
