Hailed by The Wall Street Journal as a "Renaissance woman", Hong Kong-born Kai-yin Lo studied European history at Cambridge and London Universities and has gone on to create one of Asia's first outstanding international brands.

An imaginative designer of jewellery, ceramics, objets d’art and cashmere apparel, Kai-Yin started her career by melding the cultural heritages of East and West, re-interpreting them in strikingly original, contemporary and highly usable ways.

As an esteemed cultural historian, she has edited five books which present art, design and culture in light of her historical understanding.

Art, design and culture/

"Art, design and culture is part of a single enterprise."

A deep knowledge and appreciation of both Eastern and Western culture and history are the cornerstones of Kai-Yin Lo's approach to living and design.

Every bit as universal as her applications are focused and fresh. Her artistic reach achieves its most vivid expression in the extensive array of jewelry, accessories, textiles, ceramics and lifestyle products she has created. Ultimately, every design she works on is drawn from her reinterpretation of the rich wellspring that is China and Asia's heritage or inspired by European references.

In instilling such sensibilities into a language all her own, Kai-Yin’s designs are not only highly wearable and useable, but also stylish and distinctive. The impressive end result is "Timeless Design for Our Borderless 21st Century World".

As an esteemed cultural historian, she has edited five books which present art, design and culture in light of her historical understanding.

Over the years, she has also served as the curator and organizer of leading cultural events ranging from the landmark exhibition of modern Chinese artist Wu Guanzhong at the British Museum in 1992, to the influential “Living Heritage-Vernacular Environment in China” presentation at the China Institute, New York, in 2001. More recently still, she has overseen the successful installation and curatorship of the Hong Kong official design exhibition at Shanghai Expo in 2010 and the first ever art/design/innovation exhibition at Asia Society Hong Kong Center between 2012 and 2013. She continues to bring her wealth of insight and vision to many other forums on art design, culture and business.

The 2007 recipient of the Hong Kong Design Centre’s prestigious “World’s Leading Chinese Designer” award, Kai-Yin was also awarded a Silver Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong Government for her ongoing outstanding contributions to design in 2009.
